On 4th Oct 2013, the first ever patient rights charter was launched in Kenya. This document consists of the rights and responsibilities of the patient as well as dispute resolution mechanisms.
Advocating for the signing and launch of this documents wasn’t enough. MMF has gone a step further and together with various partners, including Kenya Law Society started the dissemination of the same.
On 23rd May 2014, the first patient rights dissemination forum was held in Nyeri county at Green Hills Hotel. The forum sponsored by IPAS Kenya and hosted by the Medical Board was well attended by various stakeholders in the health sector. Six counties were represented in the forum. Delegates ranged from Doctors, County Reps, nurses and Hospital Administrations.
Some of the professional bodies represented included the Nursing Council, Clinical Officers board and Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians & Technologists Board
The forum consisted of a day’s training and the dissemination of 1000 copies of the patient rights charter to the six counties represented. Namely: Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Meru, Nyandarua, Murang’a and Laikipia.
Another dissemination forum will be held on 13th June 2014 in Nakuru.
